There are runic symbols on the tip of each arm which correspond to each direction. There are shorter, decorative arms in the shape of an 'x' to show the intermediate directions. Outside the red circle there is text at the top, right, bottom, and left that give the Titanian words for the cardinal directions and a bit about the word meanings. At the top, the text reads "ISS: from ice and Eld Iss Hald, the name of the star commonly used for navigation". On the right the text reads "AEGR: from the root of the word for sea."
