History
Founded in 1813, in response to public outcry for higher education, by Sir Francis Landreth. He was a wealthy noble who believed that having a better educated general population would equate to having a more prestigious country. He was also responsible for improving public education, requiring everyone to be educated to the same requirements, or go beyond.
